Crispy on the outside and perfectly gooey inside, these air fryer mozzarella sticks are an easy appetizer made with simple pantry staples and served with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 mozzarella sticks, or about 300 g mozzarella cut into stick shapes
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup marinara sauce, for dipping
- Light oil spray, as needed
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 390°F, or 200°C.
- Place the flour in one bowl.
- In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Line a plate or tray with parchment paper.
- Roll each mozzarella stick in the flour, then dip it into the egg mixture, then coat it in the breadcrumb mixture.
- Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating one more time for each stick.
- Place the coated sticks on the prepared tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
- Arrange the frozen coated sticks in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Lightly spray with oil.
- Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, until golden and crispy.
- Remove carefully and serve immediately with warm marinara sauce.
Notes
- Freezing the coated sticks before cooking helps keep the cheese from leaking out.
- Panko breadcrumbs can be used for an even crispier coating.
- Cook in batches if needed so the air fryer basket does not get overcrowded.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer at 375°F for 3 to 4 minutes.
