Description

A festive red, white, and blue layered dessert made with cake cubes, fresh berries, and creamy whipped filling. This patriotic trifle is easy to assemble and perfect for celebrating Independence Day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 prepared angel food cake or pound cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (Cool Whip), thawed
  • Optional: additional whole berries or small flags for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
  2. Fold in the whipped topping until fully combined to make the creamy filling.
  3. In a large trifle bowl or clear glass bowl, layer 1/3 of the cake cubes.
  4. Spread 1/3 of the cream mixture over the cake layer.
  5. Top with 1/3 of the sliced strawberries and 1/3 of the blueberries.
  6. Repeat layers two more times: cake, cream, berries.
  7. Finish with a decorative top layer of cream and arrange berries in a flag or star pattern if desired.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Can be made 1 day ahead and chilled overnight.
  • Use pound cake for a denser texture or angel food for a lighter version.
  • Substitute raspberries for strawberries if preferred.
  • Individual trifles in jars or cups make great party portions.
